Freezing Nuts: When and How to Do It Right

Freezing extends shelf life for large purchases. Done correctly, cashews and macadamias stay fresh for months.

If you buy a kilogram or more and cannot finish it within a few weeks, the freezer is your friend — provided you protect against moisture and odours.

1. Prep before freezing

  • Use airtight freezer bags or jars with minimal headspace
  • Label with the date you opened or froze
  • Freeze in portions so you thaw only what you need

2. Thawing without sogginess

Bring nuts to room temperature still sealed. Opening too early invites condensation on the surface. Once at room temp, enjoy within the usual window for best texture.
